How do you fall out of love with someone?

Me and my ex went out for 10 months and we fell helplessly in love, we had to split because of my dad and he went off with another girl (who treats him like s***) he still loves me but he won't be with me so I want to move on but i can't. How do you stop loving someone? everytime i look at him i see the future we could've had and it kills me inside
