How do you fall out of love with someone if you love them unconditionally?

Weird question, but it's necessary that I have to fall out of love with my ex. We broke up because school was really taking its toll on the both of us and we couldn't be there for each other when we needed it. We started fighting and the fights just wouldn't stop so we decided to break up for the sake of saving our relationship.





We want to be really good friends with each other still, and hopefully one day we'll be back together when the time is right. . but it's necessary for me to fall out of love with him so I can move on. . but I just don't know how. How are you supposed to fall out of love with someone if you love them no matter what?How do you fall out of love with someone if you love them unconditionally?
Why is it necessary for you to fall out of love with him if you want to get back together with him when the time is right..?








Edit - But Kristie, if you love him and it hurts you that much and you want him to be yours and only yours, why can't you guys try to make it work? True love is so rare..it is something that is so valuable and worth holding on to if the person means that much to you.





Edit 2 - Honestly..the reason why I am responding the way I am is because I am in practically an identical situation as you are. I'm in a freshman in college..and she is a junior in high school. Our summer together was incredible..we fell in love with each other so deeply. Then school comes around and everything just gets so difficult and weird. All of a sudden things have changed..and she says she still loves me but its not working for her..and that hopefully we can be together when the time is right....and I am in pain and don't know what to do.








How long ago did you end things..? and I hear you on the last part..I agree also that her and I have a lot of growing up to do..but I still don't see how we can't do it together its ripping my apart as well..I don't know exactly how she feels and if I can trust that she really loves me and stuff and it hurts like hell..I've never felt this way about any girl before I have never cried more in my life than with her..I never even knew I was capable of these kinds of emotions for a girl. She says she needs to be single....and that kills me bc what for ya know..does she want to meet someone else? I hate love so much..How do you fall out of love with someone if you love them unconditionally?
If you want to get back together in time, you probably don't want to fall out of love with him.
